Multiple fabrics wherein each ply is formed of interwoven ground weft threads and of ground warp threads which do not pass from ply to ply, the plies being bound together by separate binder threads such as 12, 13, Fig. 5, have more weft threads 11 per unit area in the inner ply than in the outer plies 9, 10. Preferably also, the inner plies have more warp threads. The binder threads may interlace with the weft threads of a dummy ply which are solely held by these binder warps. The fabric may have inner plies 14, 15, 16, Fig. 6, with their own selvedge and outer plies 17, 18 with their own selvedge of coarser and thicker warp and weft than the inner selvedge. The inner and outer plies are united by binder threads. In a modification, a multiply fabric having one face 5, Fig. 2, formed of one or more piles of warp and weft threads, with a larger number of ends and picks than in the other face 6 is folded back upon itself as shown in Fig. 3, and the various plies are united by stitching &c. The fabric may be used for belting or band conveyers, or brake friction linings or for transmission bands and clutches.
