Abstract

333,053. Ritchie, D. M. Aug. 7, 1929. Gravity and force-feed lubricating. -The inverted cover of an axle bearing for colliery hutches &c. has two depending portions separated by a gap e through which a wheel for applying grease has access to the axle. The surplus grease is scraped off the axle and received in two chambers d formed in the cover, from which it passes to the axle as required. In the case of lubrication by oil, the chambers d contain felt, and the oil is squirted on to the axle through pipes with flexible upper ends leading from a tank which is either raised to a sufficient height or contains a spring or weight loaded plunger, actuated in each case through a tappet by the passage of the vehicle wheels.
