Abstract
331,891. Pacilli, E. Jan. 26, 1929. Distant control systems.-Railway points and signals are operated at a distance from a cabin by certain electric cables from a group, so that the number independently operated equals the number of combinations available, a common return being used. The local circuit has switches opened or closed by coils energized by the cables, so that all the selected cables must be energized to complete the circuit. In a points control, Fig. 4, the points 19 are operated by a motor 25 controlled by relay 17 and controller E from the controller D at the cabin. If D is rotated from A until arrows B, X coincide, contact 12 closes contacts 8 of cables II, III, IV so that both coils of relay 4 are energized to close switch 6, so that relay 17 is energized to close a holding-on relay and also prepare the following circuits-at switch 20 a track circuit 18, at switch 26 the motor circuit, at switch 23 the indicator circuit 32', and at switch 21<1> the consent circuit 21 which may instead be connected to the main cables. At the control D, the contacts 13, 15 complete the consent circuit 21, while contact 14 completes the control circuit 7. If the track is vacant, relay 27 actuates switch 28 in the consent circuit 21 to energize relay 29 and withdraw stop 37 from a spring stop 36 on the disc D. The disc is then moved to position C where it closes at 13' a circuit 38 so as to energize a relay 39 closing switch 40 in feed 24 to start the motor 25 and rotate pin 42 in the slot 43 of a connecting-rod coupled to the points, the contact 45 of disc E preparing the return circuits. At the end of the stroke, contact 46 closes circuit 32<1> to release stop 37<1> and allow disc D to be moved to A<1> where the handle can be removed for other operations. The coils 48, 49 form part of a recording apparatus 47 in the cabin to record the time and circuit of every current. The various combinations are operated in succession, and a mechanical lock may be provided, Fig. 6, consisting of rollers 53 sliding in guides 52 and passing only a certain number of wedges 54 secured upon rods 55 which actuate switches 57 in the main leads I - - IV and are operated by coils 56 from the control disc D.
