Rotary apparatus; splashing apparatus. - A sprinkler having a slow intermittent rotary movement comprises a. tubular member 11, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted in a stand pipe 10 and carrying an inclined tube 12 terminating in a nozzle. Pivoted on a bracket 14 on the tube 12 is an arm 16, movement of which is limited by a stop 18, and carrying at one and a bent tube 4 and at the other a weight 17. Water from the nozzle 13 passing through the tube 4 gives a reaction causing the apparatus to rotate, when centrifugal force raises the weight 17 causing the tube 4 to be withdrawn from the jet thus stopping the rotary movement. Fig. 6 shows a modification by which a slow intermittent movement is given for part of the rotation and a rapid continuous movement for the rest. In addition to the weighted arm 16 carrying a deflector 22 a second arm 25 is pivoted to the tube 12 carrying an inclined plate 27 which is normally in the path of the jet the reaction of which rotates the apparatus. An adjustable cam 30 withdraws the plate 27 as shown in dotted lines when the deflector 22 is brought into action to give intermittent movement. Fig. 10 shows a form in which a curved plate 33 is mounted on the arm 16 and carries a lug 34 of the cross-section shown in Fig. 11 against which water from the jet 13a impinges.
