Abstract

330,308. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 6, 1929. Sulphur dyes of good fastness and solubility are obtained by subjecting an indophenol or leuco-indophenol obtained from an alkyl- or aralkyl-1-naphthylamine-6- or 7-sulphonic acid and p-aminophenol or a derivative thereof, or a mixture of such indophenols, to sulphur fusion in the presence of an aqueous or alcoholic solution of alkali polysulphides, with or without copper or a salt thereof. In examples : (1) the leucoindophenol obtained from ethyl-1-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid and p-aminophenol is heated with aqueous polysulphide and copper sulphate to give a green dye; without the addition of copper a more bluish product is obtained; (2) and (3) Similar dyes are obtained when the leucoindophenol obtained from ethyl-1-naphthylamine- 7-sulphonic acid and p-aminophenol, and the leucoindophenol obtained from the mixture of ethyl-1-naphthylamine-6- and 7-sulphonic acids and p-aminophenol, are subjected to the treatment of example (1). (4) The leucoindophenol obtained from benzyl - 1 - naphthylamine - 6-sulphonic acid and p-aminophenol is treated with alcoholic polysulphide solution. (5) The leucoindophenol obtained from ethyl-1-naphthylamine- 6-sulphonic acid and 3 : 5-dichloro-1-amino-4- phenol is treated with aqueous polysulphide and copper sulphate to give a green dye.
