Abstract

329,870. Spencer, A. June 15, 1929. Combined buffer and draw-gear. - In a combined friction buffing and draw-gear for railway &c. vehicles having wedge surfaces 2 co-operating . with inclined faces of a housing 1, the wedges 2 are pressed outwardly by a spring 6 located within the housing and an indiarubber spring 3 is disposed between the wedges 2 so as to be compressed during the inward movement of the latter during buffing or drawing. Preferably the springs 3 are of the kind comprising indiarubber bars or bodies moulded on to opposite sides of and extending through perforations in metal plates 4, with additional metal plates 5 intervening, while the spring 6 is either of a similar character, the rubber in this case forming concentric rings, or is an ordinary helical steel spring, or a combination steel spring and indiarubber spring may be employed.
