Abstract

329,759. Stanley, A. H., (Maxson, C. B., and Maxson, J. W.). March 27, 1929. Delivery apparatus. - Paper and like sheet material is fed towards the stacking-position a,t such a high speed that it has a tendency to buckle by means engaging both sides of the sheet, and after the head of the sheet has reached the stacking-position, the tail is engaged to slow it down and permit it to be properly aligned. The sheets of paper, which may be cut by cutters 4, 6, Fig. 1, from a web, or a stack of sheets cut from a number of superposed webs, or previously-cut sheets are fed between rapidly-moving tapes 10, 16 so that successively-fed sheets are spaced apart. After leaving the tapes 10, 16, the sheet is fed on to rolls 71 disposed between the end roll 30 supporting the tapes 16 and the stacking-position 18. Tapes 73 passing round rollers 75, 77 and driven at a slower speed co-operate with the rolls 71 to engage the sheet and reduce its speed. The rollers 75, 77 are carried in a frame 79 pivoted at 81 and actuated by a crank and connecting-rod 83 from a cam 89 engaging a roller 91 on the rod 83 so that the tapes can be raised to permit the sheet to be fed on to the rolls 71. In a modification, a rubber-covered cam 67. Fig. 5, is fixed to the shaft 69, which loosely supports the rollers carrying the tapes 10, and engages at the correct time with a tail of a sheet passing over the roll 71.
