Board games.-An apparatus, preferably coinfreed, for playing " noughts and crosses " comprises a cabinet having a front plate 2 provided with a window 3 divided into nine square panes 4, of opaque glass, on to which " noughts " may be projected by lamps 18 and " crosses " by lamps 19 arranged behind appropriately marked glass plates 16 in conical casings 13. On the insertion of coins in two slots 6, 7, switches 8, 9 may be operated by the players in turn to close the circuits to solenoids 28 operating the switch arms 20 controlling the circuits to the lamps. On the completion of the circuit to any lamp a solenoid arranged in the circuit of that lamp attracts a switch arm arranged in the circuit of the other lamp in the same casing and so prevents the other lamp from being lit by the second player. Means may be provided (1) to return a coin on certain arrangements of " noughts " or " crosses " being attained, e.g. three in line, (2) to lock all " noughts " operating-buttons after the " noughts " player has played until the " crosses " player has played, and vice versa (3) to prevent two buttons from being pressed simultaneously, (4) to penalise a player playing out of turn, (5) to break all circuits after a predetermined time of play. If desired, the apparatus may be provided with more or less than nine squares and the arrangement may be varied. The " noughts " and " crosses " may be provided on metal slides operated by a buttons and mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic operating means may be substituted for the electrical operating means shown.
