Abstract

327,959. Hoar, F. W. Jan. 10, 1929. Hulls, cleaning.-A ship's cleaner comprising a frame having a number of rotatable scrapers and brushes arranged on substantial vertical axes is associated with cable guiding means along which the frame is traversed in a fore and aft direction and disposed so that the scrapers are kept in close contact with the hull by the pull of the cables. On the frame made up of parts 6, 7, 8 are mounted a number of steel scrapers 1, fibre brushes 2 and steel brushes 3 which are geared together by pinions 4, 5 to a centre shaft 9 which is power driven. The main frame has a subsidiary frame made up of telescopic members 10, 12 held by springs or fluid pressure so as to urge the brushes and scrapers against the surface to be cleaned. The frame 10, 11 itself is secured to cables which pass round the ship and are shackled so as to provide for holding the apparatus against the ship's side. The frame may also carry buoyant tanks. The Provisional Specification also states that a single brush controlled from the gunwale of the boat and operated by hand may be employed.
