Rackets.-In the manufacture of a racket for games the sides of the extremities or the lower portion of the wooden bow frame are shaved off to form inclined plane surfaces and the junction with the handle is made by a succession of unbent wood members overlapping the tapered-down extremities to strengthen the shoulder of the frame. The bow frame a, Fig. 1, which is made of a strip of ash terminating at the throat, is bent to the desired shape with a wedge piece b and a strengthening strip c glued thereto. The sides are shaved down to form inclined surfaces on which are glued Y-shaped overlays d, Fig. 2, made in two parts joined either down the centre line or as shown in dotted lines, and shaved down as shown in Fig. 9. Wedge-shaped overlays e, Fig. 3, are next applied one to the overlay d and the other to a piece of wood h, Fig. 5, forming the handle part, these two parts, after shaping, being then glued together as shown in Fig. 12. The parts are then shaved down ready for the handle slips, the shoulders conforming approximately with the plane of the bow frame.
