Pulp, adding special substances to; paper, treating with special materials.-The aroma of burning cigarette paper is improved by incorporating a natural or artificial resin-gum in the paper pulp, or by steeping the finished paper in a gum solution. In an example 3 to 5 per cent of a solution of mastic gum, prepared by macerating the gum for 24 hours with acetone and alcohol, is added to the pulp. In another example a 1-5 per cent solution of the gum is prepared by pulverizing and drying the gum, and then dissolving it in acetone. Calcium carbonate is added until a precipitate is obtained, this precipitate is mixed with the paper paste in the breaking vats.
