Abstract

324,656. Eyston, G. E. T. Oct. 30, 1928. Density separators.-A separating apparatus, particularly for the separation of liquids from gases, has a duct formed by rings b supported in an outer casing a by radial flanges d. Sets of fan or propeller vanes l are mounted on ball bearings m on a spindle n supported by spiders o in the inlet and outlet ends g, h. The gas to be cleaned is led under pressure to the inlet g and in its passage to the outlet h causes the vanes l to rotate, thereby throwing any liquid particles from the gas stream outwards into the space t between the rings b and the casing a. The flanges d are perforated so that the liquid runs down to the outlet u. The area of the open space between the propeller blades l of each set is substantially the same as the cross-sectional area. of the inlet. A gas outlet 2 may be provided at the top of the space t to permit a small quantity of gas to pass from the blades with the liquid. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the blades l work inside a tube v provided with perforations w. Rings x of inverted truncated conical form are fixed above the sets of blades, and thrust bearings z are also added. The gas passes upwards; the liquid particles are thrown to the wall of the tube v and then pass through the perforations w to the outlet u. The rings x prevent any rapid passage of the gas at the tips of the blades l and so the separated liquid is not entrained. The rings may be partly made of wire gauze or like material. The blades l may be perforated, and a cone 1 may be used to direct the gas over the bearings.
