Thermally-actuated valves.-A safety cut-off gas cock 2 is held in the open position against the action of a spring 7 by a spring-pressed sliding catch 9, released by the contraction of a rod arranged near the burner and acting through a Bowden cable 10. When opening the cock by the handle 6, the Bowden cable is uncoupled from the catch 9 by releasing a second catch 18 to permit the catch 9 to engage a notch in the disc 3 and hold the valve open. As the thermal rod expands, the catch 18 automatically reengages with a notch 17 on the catch 9 under the influence of a spring 21, so that on subsequent cooling the contraction of the thermal rod releases the catch 9 and allows the valve to close.
