Rollers and the like, treating. -In a grinding machine, particularly for grinding a locomotive crank-pin s, wherein the grinding-wheel r is mounted in a head a which is rotated by a gear ring d to carry the wheel bodily round the work, the grinding-spindle is mounted in a hollow arm p supported in a bracket q on a slide e and is directly driven by an electric motor o mounted on the arm p. The slide may be fed radially in the head by means of a spindle f driven by bevel gears h, spindle j and spur gears k from a central spindle n. The grinding-spindle is inclined to the head axis and its periphery is correspondingly bevelled to engage correctly with the work. The motor is supplied by means of brush gear from conductors concentric with the spindle n and the head a is carried on a slide which is movable to traverse the wheel along the work.
