Abstract

Endless belt and chain conveyers with shelf carriers; driving-gear; discharging and feeding devices.-In order that articles may be placed upon a continuously running conveyer or elevator without shock, each article is acted upon by apparatus independent of the chain or belt which positively accelerates it in the direction of travel of the conveyer until it attains the speed of the conveyer and is picked up thereby. Means are provided for withdrawing each article from the conveyer simultaneously with its onward travel. The elevator comprises two pairs of endless chains 2, each pair of which is connected by bars 5 of angle section, Fig. 3, which form supports for the articles conveyed. The elevator is driven from a motor 6 through chain-and-sprocket gearing 7, 8. or worm gearing arranged at its upper end. The articles are carried upon rectangular trays 9, Fig. 4, which at the loading point are mounted on horizontal tracks 10, Fig. 2, disposed above a pair of horizontal chains 20 carrying pivoted fingers 30. Each tray is pushed by the fingers into the space 11. Fig. 2, and at the completion of its horizontal travel is deposited upon a table 12 which then rises vertically at such a speed that the bars 5 will pick up the tray without shock. After removal of the tray the table drops to its initial position. The table is mounted on a vertical guided rod 13 provided at its lower end with a roller 14 which rests on a cam 15 on a shaft 16 driven from one of the shafts 3. The chains 20 are reciprocated by the action of a cam 29, Fig. 2, on the shaft 16 on a pivoted member 24 which is connected by a chain 26 to a sprocket 27. The free end of the chain 26 carries a weight 28. In a modification the reciprocating movement is caused by a rotating arm mounted on the shaft 16 and having the chain 26 attached to its free end. The trays are delivered by a pair of spaced chains 34 carrying supporting rollers 35 which are driven by the engagement of fingers 37 on the bars 5 with pegs 38. A pair of chains 39 carry projections 42 which engage in recesses 43 at the margin of the undersides of the trays. The chains 39 are driven at such a speed that the tray is withdrawn horizontally from the elevator while supported by the rollers 35.
