Folding-devices; device for regulating tension of work during folding and stitching.- A fold guide for regulating the passage of a pre-folded hem through a sewing machine, particularly a hem-stitching machine, has means for regulating the pressure on the hem and means for applying a uniform tension to the fold when the feed is to-and-fro. The hem H of the material passes over an angle plate 19 under plates 20, 26. The pressures of the plate 20, 26 on the hem are independently regulated by screw nuts 23, 28 and springs 21, 29. The nut 23 is threaded on a pillar 22 carried by the plate 19 and the nut 28 is threaded on a pillar carried by the plate 25. The plate 26 is adjustable on the plate 25 by the nut 24 and slot 30. The plate 25 is carried on an arm 17 rigid on a sleeve 18 turning on a shaft carried by the table bracket 15, 14. The arm 17 is kept in position by a spring 41 and adjustable arm 42. When the feed is forward, the plates yield against the spring 41 and the frame turns on the shaft in the sleeve 18. When the feed is backwards, the spring 41 keeps the hemmed material taut. A stop 17<1> limits the motion of the arm 17. A folding-guide 35 as described in 316,406 may be used with the device.
