323,398. Goddard, J., and Goddard, M. E. Feb. 7, 1929. Stockings and socks. -To produce a single article to replace stockings worn with tennis over-socks having a turn-over at the ankle, a combined stocking and over-sock is formed by knitting. As shown, the leg portion A is of light material, such as silk, and the foot portion C is of a. warm material, such as wool. A welt B simulating the turnover of an over-sock is produced at the ankle. In one manner of carrying out the construction, the stocking leg is first knitted in fine yarn, such as silk, proceeding as far as the part D. The part D, E is then knitted with wool or the like as plain knitting and is continued as fancy knitting from E to F. From F to D is again formed of plain knitting and after the fabric is looped up at D the knitting is continued for the foot part.
