Abstract
323,198. Schreiber, N. Sept. 22, 1928. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Logs; liquid-stream indicators.-In an apparatus for use as a ships' log or as a liquid-stream indicator, a magnetic device contained within a submerged chamber which is completely closed at its upper end but is not so closed at its lower end is rotated through gearing by a propeller &c. and effects the periodical closure of an electric circuit forming an element of the indicating &c. apparatus which is contained in a part not accessible to the sea &c. The propeller A is mounted within a horizontal tubular chamber B secured to the lower end of vertical chamber C containing a spindle E which is rotated through the gearing shown from the propeller, the spindle F forming part of the gearing passing through an aperture in the lower end of the chamber C. The spindle E carries at its upper end a permanent magnet G, or an electromagnet, beneath a plate D of non-magnetic material which completely closes the upper end of the chamber C. Mounted above the plate D is an armature J carried by a pivoted arm K so that it can move towards the magnet G against the constraint of a spring L each time the poles of the magnet approach the vertical plane of the armature, At its outer end the arm K carries a contact K<1> co-operating with a fixed contact I<1> to complete an electric circuit to operate indicating &c. devices.
