Abstract

322,797. Carrier Engineering Co., Ltd., and Robertson, K. J. R. June 13, 1928. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents.- Grease is removed from metal and other articles by immersing them in or passing them through a vapour solvent for the grease while they are at a temperature below that of condensation of the vapour, so that the vapour condenses on the articles and dissolves the grease which falls off in solution and leaves the articles dry. Vapour is regenerated from the resulting solution, and the grease and dirt are discharged. In the apparatus shown, the articles 4 are passed through vapour 7 by means of a conveyer 2, the vapours being admitted through nozzles 8, and the liquid and grease being passed through pipes 10, 11 to thermostatically heated stills 12, 13 having curved bottoms. Coils 20 are provided for cooling the vapour in the upper part of the chamber. In a modification, the condensed liquid is vaporized by means of heating pipes 26 which may be thermostatically controlled. After cleaning, the articles may be passed by the same or another conveyer through a hot air chamber to remove the last traces of solvent. Specifications 278,061 and 314,912 are referred to.
