Abstract

322,063. Oliver, G. S. Oct. 29, 1928. Mechanical systems, automatic; track apparatus for stopping trains. - A train-stopping arm 10 situated outside the track on a rock shaft 10<a> is set in a raised position by one train to engage a brake operating arm on a following train by the depression of a trip lever 9R carried on the same rock shaft 10<a> outside the track on the other side, and is lowered to the clear position when the first train reaches the exit of a section and depresses a similar trip lever 9F which is connected to the first by mechanical means such as rods and cranks. When the trains move in both directions along a single track the rock shaft 10<b> carrying the trip lever 9F also carries a train stopping arm and the functions of the trip lever and train stopping arms are interchanged for a train travelling in the reverse direction. The striker on one side, and the brake operating arm on the other side of the engine can be switched over for reverse running and for this the apparatus may be connected to the reversing gear of the engine. Arrangements of track devices at a straight section and at crossing tracks are described in detail.
