Wood, treating with liquids; waterproofing; proofing processes.-Gunnery practice bullets or balls are made from wood by turning to a slightly larger size than that required, heating in a vessel in paraffin to about 140‹ C. until complete expulsion of vapour, cooling to 60‹ C. and then finishing to the correct size and polishing. The finished balls again may be heated in a bath of coloured paraffin and then finished by a further heating in paraffin to a temperature of 300‹ C.
