Thrashing-machines.-Dust-removing apparatus for thrashing-machines whereby dust is drawn out by suction from the machine, from behind the thrashing drum, from over the straw shakers, from behind the short straw outlet, &c., comprises a casing 2 mounted upon the thrashing box 1 and a suction tube 3 therefrom which leads to the short straw outlet or other part to be evacuated. A thrashing-drum is supported in front of a basket 6. A coarsely perforated plate or wide-meshed sieve frame 7 with suspended plates 8 and supported by a chain 10, is arranged behind the drum 5 to prevent corn therefrom being thrown backwards and yet permit the passage of dust laden air. The casing 2 comprises a box 11, with bottom circular apertures 13 over which rotate vane wheels driven by a pulley 15 and. bevel gearing. The wheels have sieves underneath, and foreign bodies collecting therein are thrown out by centrifugal force. Obliquely arranged underneath are wood strippers 20 with wire prongs which remove short stalks, &c. The suction tube 3 and a discharge to atmosphere are connected to the casing. The tube 3 ends in a device 4 which removes dust from the short straw chamber, and comprises a tube 22 rotated against a brush 28 which extends the breadth of the machine. The tube 22 consists of wire gauze or perforated or slotted sheet metal, with apertures. so fine as to permit only the exit of air. Flared tubes divide up the tube 22 to ensure uniform suction throughout its length. Guide plates may be arranged in the funnel-like expansions. Alternatively, a stationary tube 29 may be used in lieu of rotating the tube 22. Tube 29 carries nozzles or pipe unions 30 to which are secured by resilient means cylindrical sieves 32 which vibrate when 'the machine is working and prevent the settling of large particles. The sieve tubes and suction box may be applied to other parts of the machine.
