Rammers.-A combined vibration-tamper and roller suitable for packing concrete or tar macadam on roads has rollers A mounted on a frame E supporting an internal combustion engine F which drives a shaft C running freely within the rollers, this shaft serving to rotate an out-of-balance shaft M within a tamper K yieldingly supported from the frame E. The shaft M carries a pair of eccentric flywheels N, Fig. 3, and is supported from the roller shaft by arms L connected to the frame E by springs S. Handles B attached to the frame E serve to guide the apparatus and to press the tamper K into engagement with the work. In a modification, two parallel shafts M each carrying an eccentric flywheel are geared together within the casing of the tamper K. Several independent tampers K may be separately supported and driven from the shaft C.
