Abstract

319,526. Boerner, A. Oct. 25, 1928. Surface carburettors. - The carburettor comprises a rectangular casing 1 provided with a hamd-operated throttle valve 5, Figs. 3 and 6, mounted on a fixed hollow shaft 6, the fuel flowing over the surface of the throttle valve facing the air inlet 2 and the amount of fuel admitted being controlled by the degree of opening of the throttle valve. The fuel is supplied to the bore 6<1> of the shaft 6 which is provided with openings 10<1>, 10<11>, 10<111> of diminishing angular size adapted to coact with ducts 9', 9<11>, 9<111> in the hub 11 of the throttle valve. The surface of the throttle valve 5 over which the fuel flows may be roughened or fluted. The lower end of the throttle valve moves over the curved face 15 of a member 13 divided by horizontal and vertical partitions into rectangular passages 14 of gradually increasing cross-section through which the mixture passes to the outlet 3. Unvaporized fuel passes through an orifice 24 to a chamber beneath the carburettor which communicates either with the induction pipe 4 or with the fuel tank. In a modification, a series off fuel inlets controlled by ball valves are provided in the carburettor cover, the valves being opened in succession by cams on the hub of the throttle valve, and a Blowrunning nozzle opening into the mixing-chamber immediately in front of the hub of the thottle valve is supplied with fuel through a suctionactuated ball valve.
