Abstract

319,478. Rymal, R. L. Sept. 7, 1928. Actuating pumps by motion of vehicles; regulating compression.-A tyre inflator actuated by rotation of a wheel comprises a cylinder divided by a wall into a piston chamber and a compressed air chamber connected with it through a check valve and containing a tube disposed to prevent flow of lubricant but allow flow of air to the tyre. The pump cylinder is formed as a part of the hub; a delivery chamber 20 in its end is formed bv a partition 19 containing the inlet and outlet valves. The incoming air is filtered by a screen. The compressed air passes from the chamber to the tyre through a tube 39 extending nearly to the partition, so that lubricant is prevented by the centrifugal force from entering. The piston is driven by an eccentric 25 on the axle. A chamber on the side of the cylinder contains a diaphragm 44 subject to the air from the cylinder entering through a port 56 and acting against a spring 52. This diaphragm opens a valve 48, allowing escape to atmosphere when the pressure rises unduly. Oil also escapes into the diaphragm chamber through the port 56.
