Tracks having a single guiding rail; tracks having two guiding and bearing rails with supplementary rails; rails, metallic built-up.-Comprises a high-speed railway system in which the - running wheels of the vehicle serve solely to carry the load, guidance being effected by a guide rail engaged between at least two pairs of lateral rollers, and propulsion is effected by a third member, preferably a propeller, separate from the carrying and guiding wheels. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the vehicle is propelled by a screw propeller 13, plain wheels 11 run on rails 10, and guide rollers 17 engage both sides of a rail 14 carried on a support 15. The rollers are carried by arms swinging on longitudinal pivots 19 and are pulled towards each other by a spring 20. In a modification, the guide rollers are carried by arms swinging on vertical pivots. Derailment is prevented by a hinged link 21 which prevents the rollers from separating sufficiently for flanges 18 on their lower sides to move clear of the guide rail. Lateral movement between the rollers and the vehicle body is transmitted by laminated springs 22 connected at their ends by links to the body. The guide rail may be formed in two parts 25, 26, Fig. 4, secured together by bolts so as to break joint. The support 15 for the guide rail is constructed so as to be somewhat resilient to lateral shocks. Derailment may be prevented by providing the running wheels with flanges 31, Fig. 5, which normally do not touch the running rails, and the guide rail may be used as an emergency support in conjunction with shoes or rollers 30 mounted on the running wheel axles above the guide rail.
