Abstract

317,994. Marks, Sir G. C., (Universal Power Shovel Co.). Aug. 27, 1928. Grab machines; scoop-arm machines; scraping- apparatus.-The main boom 9 of an excavating- machine carries supporting means for a dipper stick 21, and an auxiliary boom is telescopically arranged in the main boom and carries a pulley 36, the auxiliary boom permitting the machine to be used as a crane or as a drag-line or grab excavator &c. The auxiliary boom is built of a central angled piece 29 and end angled pieces 30 and is held in adjusted position by bolts 35 engaging one of a series of sets of openings 33. The main boom is provided with spring braces 17 and is constructed of angled plates arranged to provide a hollow space 27 to receive the auxiliary boom and a guide channel 14 for a sliding weight 15 employed with a grab-bucket to prevent entanglement of the ropes.
