Compositions containing cellulose derivatives. -Plastic compositions containing organic cellulose derivatives are rendered more plastic by the addition of a limited amount of water, for example, between 1 per cent and 6 per cent by weight. The composition may be in the form of powder, sheets, blocks &c. The invention is particularly applicable to the manufacture of unsplinterable compound glass sheets comprising celluloid-like sheets cemented between sheets of glass, and enables lower pressures to be used. The celluloid-like sheets may be soaked until the desired amount of water is taken up, and the soaking bath may, contain solvents or partial solvents such as ethyl alcohol, ethyl lactats and a softener such as triacetin and inorganic salts. If gelatin or glue is employed as the adhesive, the water in the celluloid-like sheet improves the adhesion to the glass sheets. The composition may contain cellulose esters such as cellulose acetate, formate, propionate or butyrate, or cellulose ethers such as ethyl, methyl or benzylcellulose.
