Abstract

317,334. Maiuri, G., and Bossini, R. F. Feb. 10, 1928. Refrigerating absorption machines for. - In machines working on a continuous cycle and with a pressure-equalizing inert gas, two absorbers 7, 8 containing liquor at different concentrations are used, and the heat of absorption in the weak absorber 7 is used to generate the refrigerant from the stronger liquor. The main generator 1 is heated externally and is connected with the absorber 7 by pipes 14, 12, and 11, 13 forming a heat exchanger. The evolved vapour rises through the upper part of the generator, serving as a rectifier, to the condenser and flows as liquid through a pipe 5 to the evaporator 6. Inert gas is heated in a rising limb 9 and cooled. in a descending limb 10. The evaporated refrigerant and inert gas pass to the absorber 8, which is cooled by a water jacekt, and the resultant strong liquor flows by a pipe 22 to spaces 18 and 16 around the other absorber 7. Some gas mixture passes through the bent sealing pipe shown to the weak absorber 7. Due to the heat of absorption vapour is evolved and passes through a pipe 17 into the top 2 of the main generator and on to the condenser. In a modification the gas evolved from the solution around the absorber 7 is condensed and evaporated in a stream separate from the main gas stream. Solvent condensed in the condenser is diverted by a trap 15, at the entrance to the evaporator, and a pipe 23 back to the liquor circuit. An inert gas vent 27 extends from the condenser to the jacket space 16. According to the Provisional Specification the inert gas may be circulated by a fan, or difference in density between the inert gas and refrigerant vapour may produce the circulation.
