Abstract
317,029. Mackie & Sons, Ltd., J., and Mackie, J. P. May 9, 1928. Coilers ; sliver cans .-In an arrangement for delivering and packing slivers of flax &c. into cans, the sliver is delivered onto a platform, which is arranged to remain at any desired height in the can, and to be depressed as the sliver accumulates by the action of a reciprocating presser-box. The can 19, Fig. 1, which may be rectangular, is formed with hinged sides so as to be capable of being opened out, and is furnished with a platform 34 capable of sliding within the can. The platform is provided with hinged blocks 35 pressed outwards by springs 37 to grip the sides of the can frictionally. The can is furnished with wheels 33. The sliver is delivered from the spreadboard &c. by an oscillating guide 4 operated from a cam 17 through a lever 14, and adjustable connecting-rod 11. The sliver as it accumulates is depressed by a reciprocating presser-box 22, carried by vertical rods 21 sliding in guides 20, and operated from a cam 23 by a lever 25. The presser-box is arranged to enter the can when the guide 4 is withdrawn to its rearmost position.
