Catches, automatic; hasp fastenings and locks; latches, sliding; lock mechanism operated by non- rotating key.-A fastening or lock, shown as mounted on a hinged hasp-plate 2 with an aperture 40 through which a staple 28 passes, has a number of sliding latch bolts (three shown) 18, 20, 22 biassed to the right by springs 24 and having bevel projections 26 adapted to engage in the staple 28 as shown. Projections on the bolts, guided in slots 38 limit movement of the bolts. Normally, projections 26 are in alignment, and the bolts are of different lengths so that their rear ends are out of alignment. To release the catch the rear ends of the bolts are pressed inwards by a sliding key 12 having shoulders 16 (Fig. 6) stepped to correspond with the ends of the bolts so that the bolts are moved simultaneously. The free end 10 of the hasp plate 2 and the end 14 of the key are upturned to facilitate operation by gripping. The key may be removed, or may be left in place, where it is returned frictionally by a spring 46, so that the device may be used as a keyless sliding catch. The bolts &c. are enclosed in a case or cover 48 riveted to the plate 2 and with an aperture to allow insertion of the key. A form is described in which the hasp plate is double-hinged.
