Abstract

316,463. Walker, J., and Walker, Hunter, & Co., Ltd. Sept. 7, 1928. Wire and ribbon resistances, threaded.-A heating-element comprises a central metallic rod 1, Fig. 1, of rectangular or other non-circular section, on which are mounted refractory formers 2, 2<a> alternately separated by distance-pieces 8. The formers 2 are formed with rectangular perforations 5 through which the rod 1 is threaded and with perforations 6 to receive the resistance coils' 7. The alternate formers 2a are similar to the formers 2, except that the central perforations 5 are angularly displaced. The effect is that the resistance coils 7 are helically disposed around the central rod 1, but are insulated therefrom by the distance-pieces 8 and the formers 2, 2a. The formers may alternatively be rectangular or cruciform. The element may be employed in tubular heaters, immersion heaters, or as radiant heaters for electric fires. According to the Provisional Specification, the central rod 1 may be oval, hexagonal, or octagonal section.
