Abstract

315,688. Verhoop, P. D., Verhoop, D., and Verhoop, C., (trading as Verhoop's Fabrieken en Agenturen). July 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Steering-gear; adjusting bogies for steering.- Articulated motor or other vehicles are provided at each end with steering wheels and the centrallypivoted bogies or axles are coupled together resiliently by rods ball-jointed to the bogie pivots, these coupling rods being connected to the steering wheels so as to control the latter. In the construction shown in Fig. 7 a tractor is mounted on two bogies 1, 2 and a trailer on bogies 3, 4 the bogies being coupled together by rods 8, 9, 10, connected to the main frame (not shown) by opposed springs 7. Each vehicle has outer steering wheels 11 and inner non-steering wheels 12. The bogie 3, Figs. 9 and 10, supports the load platform by means of rollers 6, and has the rods 9, 10 connected to it by a ball joint 5, the rod 9 being also connected by a pivoted arm 20 to a lever 21 having a pivot concentric with the ball joint and the bogie pivot. The lever 21 is connected by a pin and slot 24 with a lever 22 pivoted at 15 and adapted to be connected by a sliding pin 18 to a lever 16 which actuates the track rod 19 of the steering wheels 11. The lever 22 is slotted to allow movement of the connection 17 from the lever 16 to the main track rod 19. The coupling rod 10 is connected by an arm 13 to a lever 14 also adapted to be connected by the pin 18 to the lever 16. For running in the forward direction FD, Fig. 9, the pin 18 is lowered by means of a rod 27 and a bell-crank 25 to couple the levers 22, 16 together so that the rod 9 actuates the steering wheels. For the reverse direction of running the pin is raised to connect the rod 10 and lever 14 to the lever 16. The transmission ratios in the steering linkages for forward and reverse running are stated to be altered in the proportions A: (LxA), where A is the distance between the bogie axles and L is the length of the coupling rods.
