Chocks carried on the arm of a luffing or other davit comprise a fixed inner half 2 against which the inner side of the boat 3 rests and an outer half 8 which engages the, boat keel 7 and has a downwardly-extending wing 6 pivoted between brackets 4 carried by the davit arm 1. The release gear comprises a chain linked to a downwardly extending lug 9 located between the chock 8 and the wing 6. the. chain holding the chock in its engaging position through a link 11 provided with a. horizontally-extending arm engaged by a sliding ring 12. When a safety chain 14 is removed, the ring may be knocked along the chain link and thus allows the chock 8 to fall. The link 11 is adjustably held to the davit by a hook 16 controlled by a screw device 18.
