Abstract
315,210. Gutberlet &Co., A. July 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Folding paper.-In a blade folding-machine for dealing with sheets printed with four sets of sixteen pages each, or two sets of thirty-two pages each, the sheets after being folded by parallel folders I, II, and cut, are forwarded to transverse folders III, IV, Fig. 5, duplicated at each side of the machine so as to fold the two halves of the original sheet. If the original sheet contains four sets of sixteen pages each, it is cut into the four parts by knives 7 - - 9, after leaving the second parallel folder II, and the parts 1 - - 4 are carried forward by tapes until their front edges abut against stops 11 - - 14, these stops being staggered so that each adjacent pair of parts 1, 2 and 3, 4 respectively may be forwarded perpendicularly to its previous path and side-byside. The rollers of the folders IV are arranged in line with the knives 8, 9 and the blades 15, Fig. 6, are provided on both sides with rollers 17 which, as the blades are depressed, grip the parts 1, 2 and 3, 4 of the sheet against the folding-rollers and feed them through the folders side-by-side on to bands 18, 19, Fig. 3, which forward them into positions where the folders III impart folds transverse to the initial folds. Separate receivers 20 - - 23 are provided for the parts of the sheets as they leave the folders III. If the original sheet consists of two sets of thirtytwo pages each, the knives 8, 9 are dispensed with and the folders IV are adjusted to the centres of the two halves of the sheet, so that both the folders III, IV impart folds perpendicular to the first folds.
