Cash registers; audible indicators. - The indicators of a registering apparatus such as a cash register, weighing machine, or clock are audibly announced by means of a phonographic device comprising a carrier having sound records which are independent of one another and each forms a phonetic whole reproducible in accordance with the adjustment of the apparatus. The sound record carrier may be a cylindrical body, flat surface, endless band of flexible material passing over rollers, a disc, or a sector-shaped plate. As shown in Fig. 1, the carrier 1 is mounted to rotate on an axis 2 and has a number of independent sound records x each forming a closed circle disposed at definite distances from one another and starting from a common generatrix. The reproducer may be a sound box indicated by the needle 4 which is slidable in the direction indicated at 5. The sound records may be arranged parallel to the axis of the cylinder with two or more identical records lying close together and the needle may be caused to traverse one or other of the selected records. The means for producing the positioning and operating movements of the carrier is shown diagrammatically in Figs. 6, and 7. The longitudinal movement of the carrier 1 is effected by a spring-controlled lever 34 when a locking pin 37 is released from engagement with a tooth 38 on the carrier by the movement to the right, Fig. 6 of an operating rod 35 provided with cam surfaces 36, 41. The surface 41 co-operates with a locking pin 42 to limit the movement of the carrier in accordance with the setting of the apparatus. The rotary movement of the carrier is under the control of a cam disc 27 and a spiral spring 28. The disc 27, which is provided with rods 26 engaging the carrier, is held in normal position by a spring-controlled finger 31 and the spring 28 is wound by means of gearing 29, 30. The disc is released by means of an operating lever 32 after the carrier has been positioned. During the positioning movement the sound box 40 is lifted clear of the carrier by means of a lever 46.
