Doors for passenger vehicles.-In the construction of a metal door having a window opening, the glass run channel is built up of outer and inner stampings 12, 13 of substantially channel section extending entirely around the window opening, the open sides of the channels facing the central plane of the door. In the completed door as shown in sections in Figs. 2 and 3, the glass run stampings are associated with outer and inner panels 10, 11, the inner edges of which are crimped respectively over flanges 20, 21 on the side walls 18, 19 of the channel stampings, while the outer edge of the outer panel 10 is crimped over the outer edge of the inner panel 11 to form the door overlap 15. At the hinge and lock sides of the door, Figs. 2 and 3 respectively, the other side walls 26, 27 of the glass run stampings overlap, but at the upper edge they are shortened adjacent to the aperture which serves ultimately for the introduction of the sliding window, while at the lock side the inner panel is shouldered at 33 and the side wall 27 of the inner channel stamping formed with a corresponding flange 27'. In assembling the separate parts, the inner channel stamping 13 and inner panel 11 are conected together as shown in Fig. 6 by the crimping operation referred to and by spot welding to form a subassembly unit, while the outer channel stamping 12 and outer panel 10 are connected as shown in Fig. 7 to form a second subassembly unit, and finally the two subassembly units are united, spot welding being effected along the door edges and overlap.
