Abstract

313,339. Walton, A. L. July 9, 1928. Multiple - machines; driving.-A series of records is carried on a rotary frame adapted to be positioned with respect to the reproducing mechanism and driven from an electric motor with a coinfreed or press-button starting device. Means are provided for cushioning the movement of the stylus towards the record, and for automatically raising the sound-box clear of the record and the rotary frame. The turntables 15 carrying the records 20 are mounted on brackets 1 fixed to the arms 2 of a frame which can be rotated, by a handwheel 21, to bring a selected record under the sound-box 34. In this position, the edge of the turntable engages a rubber-faced roller 37 driven, through a spring 44, from the motor 45. Selecting-mechanism. The rotary frame comprises a locating-wheel 6 having slots 25 and recesses 27 which are engaged by driving pins 24 and a locking member 26, respectively, on the spindle of the handwheel 21. Starting. The motor circuit includes a spring switch 48, 49, which is closed when the trigger 66 of a link 51 connected to the tone-arm 33 is moved away from a fixed bracket 67 against the action of a spring 68. This may be effected by a coin, passing down the shoot 54 through the actuation of levers 55, 56, chain 58, and a triplever 69; or by a hand-operated press-button arranged to displace the link 51. To damp the fall of the tone-arm, it is connected by a link 70 to a bellows 73 normally closed by a spring and having an adjustable vent and a flap-controlled inlet. Stopping. At the completion of the record, a forked arm 84, resiliently connected to the sound-box, rides up an edge-cam 19 to move the link 51 back to the position shown in Fig. 2 and open the motor switch. The tone-arm is so mounted that in this movement it automatically swings against a stop 92. To stop. the motor if the handwheel 21 is turned during the playing of a record, the pins 24 are arranged to actuate a lever 28 which, through a link 30, lifts the tone-arm 33 to actuate the switch-controlling link 51.
