Impeller blades.-The blades of a screw fan increase gradually from the tip to the hub in both width and geometrical pitch, and are at their maximum at the cross-section lying on the hub itself. Where short and long blades are alternatively disposed the sum of the widths within the circle traced by the tips of the short blades continuously increase to the hub. The blades 12, 13, Fig. 5, increase in width and pitch from the tip to the root, the increase in width being according to a straight line law. In a modification, Fig. 7, the blades 20, 21, 22, 23 follow this law within the limit of the tip circle of the small blade. In another form the variation is only true of the inner half of the blade, the outer half of the blade being of normal shape.
