Abstract

311,655. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Bennett, R. S.). May 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Fusible cut-outs. - The contacts A, B of a fuse are mounted in the porcelain &c. casing 2 by means of a spring member 37, Fig. 4, riveted to the contact member 39 and bent at the ends to engage recesses 41 in the casing 2. The shoulders 37<a> form latches to engage a member 64 on the hinged cover 27. In a modified form of contact, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the members 37, 38 are cut from one piece of metal and the latches for the cover are formed by an extension of the members 38. The fuse cartridge 76 is attached to the cover 27 by a bent plate 58 through a hole 61 in which the end of the cartridge is inserted, the body of the cartridge pressing on a fulcrum 63 formed of the end of the plate 58 when the other end of the cartridge is inserted in a clip 55 which has a spring 57 to abut against the contact 52 to prevent capacity sparking. The fuse wire 100 is attached at one end to the contact 51 by means of a screw-cap 60 and at the other end is brought out and gripped between the contact 52 and. a screw-ring 54. The cover 27 is hinged on a pivotrod 29 adjustably secured in the cover by means of spacers 32, 33 and entering holes in the projections 30 at each side of the casing 2. The cartridge 76 projects at the bottom of the casing and is surrounded by baffles 44, 45, 66, 67 on the base and cover to prevent access of metallic vapour to the interior of the casing. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the casing may have projecting bosses 3, 4 into which the supports 7, 8 are screwed, the screw-threads 6 each consisting of a coil of wire anchored at its ends to enable it to adjust itself to the thread in the boss. The casing may be mounted on a stirrup having an inclined rear surface with projecting spurs that penetrate a support so that the casing takes up an inclined position and the cover is protected from rain &c. The lower end of the fuse wire is gripped between a screwed cap and the tapered end of a ferrule fixed to the cartridge 76 by pressing the metal inwardly at one point to engage in a notch in the cartridge. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
