Abstract

310,285. Bossone, A. R. April 20, 1928. [Convention date]. Projectiles; fuzes. - Relates to bombs fitted with a spring striker 7 held cocked by balls 8, and consists in holding these balls in position by a cup 10, which is released at the beginning of the flight of the bomb. The bomb can be discharged from a rifle by means of a stem 16 and has a cylindrical body 1 tapered at the front end and provided with a screwed base 2 which, when detached, allows the bomb to be filled. A tube 3 is screwed into the front tnd of the bomb and carries a detonator 6, a percussion cap 5<1>, and the spring striker 7 which is held cocked bv the balls 8 confined in a groove in the striker by the locking cup 10. This cup is normally locked in place by a screw 11 screwed into a dome-piece 4, itself screwed to the end 3<11> of the tube 3. A windmill 12 is fitted at the outer end of the screw 11 and is normally enclosed by a cap 13, which is attached to the bomb by a bayonet-joint 14. A finger 15 on the cap 13 engages the windmill 12 and' slightly screws and unscrews the screw 11 when the cap 13 is attached and detached. This partial unscrewing of the nut the cap is detached makes the windmill free to operate when the bomb is thrown. During the flight of the bomb, the windmill unscrews the screw 11 from the dome 4 and leaves the cup 10 free to be dislodged by the shock of impact, when the spring striker is released and explodes the bomb.
