Abstract
310,032. Geissen, C. April 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Coking and carbonizing apparatus.-Powdered fuel is treated during low temperature carbonizing by supplying gases or vapours to a horizontal layer k through openings f in the support g which are covered by mushroom valves b so that the material cannot penetrate into the gas passage and the gases are distributed uniformly. The valves bare stationary, or are loosely retained in holes f of a stationary travelling or revolving grate by pins d. Passages h between lugs c on the valve heads admit air to the fuel. The grate may be formed in hinged bar sections with edges. engaging to prevent material entering between them and may carry projections e.
