Abstract

307,438. Hurd, M. Oct. 6, 1927. Sides and floors. - The body of a railway wagon, pit tub, &c. is built up of a number of separate and renewable plates a which at their edges are provided with bent or pressed doubly cranked flanges b, c forming surrounding troughs or recesses in which the bolts or other attachment means are accommodated. The first flange b is directed inwardly, and the second and shorter flange c outwardly, so that the securing means do not project internally at all, nor externally beyond the main plane surfaces of the plates. In making the plates from rectangular blanks, the corners of the latter are preferably cut away or mitred as shown at d, Fig. 5, prior to bending the plate along the lines l, m. The flanged corners may be strengthened by the insertion of flat or T-shaped metal bars e, Fig. 7, while the upper edge of the body may be strengthened either by stiffening plates extending along the entire length of each plate or by means of cornerpieces only.
