Abstract

306,582. Rose, A. G., and Rose Bros. (Gainsborough), Ltd. Nov. 23, 1927. Sheet - separators; pile supports. - A sheet - feeding apparatus of the kind in which the top sheet of a pile is buckled while engaged by a suction device, which is oscillated to detach the sheet, is constructed with a horizontally reciprocating pile support 31 which is advanced to buckle the sheet after this is held by the first aperture of the oscillating sucker 10. The sucker 10 is oscillated about a shaft 11 carried by lever arms 12 by cam-and-lever mechanism 16, 17, 18 and the lever arms are operated similarly by a cam 21 on the same shaft as the cam 18. The lever arms 12 raise the separated sheet and carry it into the grip of feed rollers 15. The sheets are carried on a support 31 fitted with adjustable pile guides for sheets of different widths. The support 31 is mounted on a carriage, 32 which moves vertically in guides in vertical side links 33, and the vertical movement is controlled by worm gearing 38 and a counterweighted chain 34. The horizontal movement of the pile support is obtained by mounting the links 33 on bellcranks 41, 43 connected by links 44 so as to give the links a parallel motion. A cam 42 acting on an arm 40 of one of the bell-cranks 41 effects the horizontal movement of the pile. As the sucker 10 oscillates on its shaft, the orifices therein are brought successively into operation. To prevent double feed a screw 55 overhangs the front of the pile, and a blast nozzle 57 blows air from the side under the separated sheet. In a modified form of suction device, it is carried by a parallel motion device adapted to give a sucker with one aperture only movement in a horizontal plane, and this device is itself mounted on a second parallel motion device to move the sucker in a vertical plane only.
