Abstract

305,971. Lanchester, F. W., and Lanchester's Laboratories, Ltd. Nov. 8, 1927. Gear wheels, trueing teeth of; spindle mountings.-A pair of gears Q<1>, Q<2> to be run in are mounted on spindles A, B and are partly immersed in abrasive material. The spindle A is driven and drives the spindle B through friction gearing N of ratio slightly different from that of the gears. The friction wheels may be changed as trueing proceeds to reduce the difference in ratios. The spindles are mounted in ball and roller bearings as shown. The ball bearings D, E are fitted in a dovetail slide in the frame, D being fixed in position and E adjustable under the control of a hand wheel and spring to provide driving pressure. The double bearing G<1>, G<2> 2 has an eccentric mounting controlled by a lever P<2> to vary the centre distance of the gears to change the effective, pitch circle. Stops are provided to locate the lever in definite positions. Lubricant is supplied to the bearings F, G<1> under slight pressure, felt packings S' - - S<4> being provided. Leakage of oil through the packings S<2>, S' keeps out abradant from the bearings. According to the Provisional Specification the bearing E is adjusted by means of an eccentric mounting.
