Atmospheric gas burners.-In a gas burner in which the gas passes from a convergent nipple into a primary mixing-chamber, the mixture from which passes to a secondary mixing-chamber into which a further supply of air is drawn, the gas nipple 5 is carried on a support 1, the central gas passage in which leads to a series of small ducts 2 terminating at the upper end of the support, and the nipple is adjustable in relation to a seating on the top of the support to vary the gas passage. In the construction shown, the nipple is carried by a member 4 screwed on the support and rotatable by a handle 3 passing through a rotatable sleeve 9. The body 6 is formed with a large aperture or apertures 7 for the admission of air through smaller apertures 8 in the sleeve 9, the latter being adjustable by means of a screwed ring 10. The upper portion 6 of the primary mixing-chamber forms an ejector nozzle by means of which a further supply of air is drawn in through apertures 12 in the burner tube 11, these apertures being adjustable by a sliding sleeve 13. The top of the nipple 5 is slightly below the tops of the air openings 7, and the dimensions of the parts are so arranged that the stream issuing from it, indicated in broken lines, is of the same cross-section as the passage 6 at a point slightly below the top of the passage. Similarly, the jet from the passage 6 just fills the cross-section of the burner,-tube 11 near the top. The burner-tube 11 is either of thin metal or of non-conducting material to prevent heating of themixture in it. The cross-section of the tube may vary gradually upwardly from circular to a rectangular, polygonal, or other form, the area of the section being maintained constant. Thetop is slightly restricted.
