Abstract

304,123. Belmonte, D. Jan. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Locking nuts. - A nut locking device in which a pin, passing through both nut and bolt, is deformed by the final movement of the nut. The nut 1, Fig. 6, of the. ordinary castellated type, has, near its upper end an inner groove 2, the lower edge of which is level with the bottoms of the castellations, whilst the upper end of the bolt is formed with a deep diametral slot 4. When the nut is nearly tight a straight rod 6, of diameter equal to that of the groove 2 is passed through the slots in nut and bolt. The last movement of the nut then deforms the rod to the form shown in Fig. 9, some of the rod being forced into the groove 2. In one variation the nut has a. slightly wider groove, and the slots in the nut, of which there are two only, allow the rod 6 when deformed, to leave the nut in a direction tangential to the bolt. In a second variant the slot 4 is replaced by a circular hole, and the groove 2 of the nut is made much wider. A fourth form has the groove formed on the bolt instead of in the nut.
