Tyres, elastic, and rim-flanges, tools for removing and replacing.-A machine for manipulating collapsable rims or side-flanges, and for use in attaching or detaching tyres to or from collapsable, or solid, riins, comprises a turntable 5 formed with radial guideways 7 for slides 10 which are fitted with rim-supporting and tyremanipulating means and are adjusted by rack- and-pinion devices operated by a hand-wheel 31. The slides 10 are formed with fixed hooks 11 to engage one side of the rim, and with posts 2 in which are guided the pivot-pins 14 of hooks 13 adapted to engage the opposite side of the rim. The posts 2 are formed with shoulders 19 to provide a temporary support for a rim or wheel. Fig. 2 shows a fitting for use in forcing a tyre from a rim comprising inclined rollers 35 carried by brackets 33 adjustably secured on arms 32 of a member 3, the hub of which is adjustably secured to a sleeve 36 in a threaded spindle 37. The latter is carried by a base 38 adapted to be fitted to the central boss 39, Fig. 1. The spindle 37 may be replaced by a smaller spindle 43, Fig. 1, fitted with cones 44, 45 for use with tyre- or flange-lever devices shown in Figs. 8 and 10 respectively. In these, a lever 47 is formed with an open yoke for engagement between the cones 44, 45 and a series of holes for the adjustable attachment of a block 49. Fig. 8, fitted with rollers 50 for forcibly engaging the tyre head. The block 49 may also be fitted with a hook 51 for use in lifting a tyrebead. Fig. 10. shows the lever 47 fitted with a channelled block 52 for forcing a, split flange into its rim-seat. Fig. 7 shows a device for breaking the joint in a collapsable rim comprising an arm 63, hooked at 65 to engage one end of the rim, and an arm 58 connected to the table 5 (Fig. 1) by a universal joint 57, the arms 63, 58 being adjustably connected by an operating- lever 61. The block 52 is shown fitted with a knife 53 for freeing a tyre-bead from the rim, and a prong 56 for forcing a tyre off a solid rim. Fig. 3 shows a device for forcing the edges of a tyre cover into the groove of a well-base rim in which fixed and movable jaws 72, 73 respectively are carried on posts 69 which are adjustably mounted on arms projecting from the slides 10.
