Abstract
303,475. Reiners, W., (trading as Schlafhorst & Co., W.). Jan. 4, 1028, [Convention date]. Creel arrangements. - In spool-changing devices for machines wherein several cross wound spools x, y with their thread ends joined together are arranged coaxially on a common sleeve or spindle 1, the spindles are mounted by their pins 2 in supports 4 provided with latches to engage grooves in the spindles and thus retain these in position, the supports. 4 being slidable on rods 6 fixed to or slidable on supporting rails 8. To change the spools when the front spool x is empty, this is slidden off the end of the spool and the spool y moved forwards into its place as shown in Fig. 1a. The support 4 is then moved to the left with the spindle 1, and a temporary support 14 is placed on the rod 6 as shown in Fig. 1<c>. The support 4 is then released from the spindle and swung aside to permit of the introduction of a new spool z as shown in Fig. 1d, the support 4 is then replaced on the spindle 1, the support 14 withdrawn, and the spindle 1 and support 4 moved to the right into the normal position shown in Fig. 1. The rod 6 is prismatic or is made with a feather 7 engaging a groove in the support 4, or vice versa, to prevent turning of the support except at the part 19 of the rod, which is round. The spools may be mounted direct on the spindles, or on tubes 3 thereon. When thin walled tubes 18 are used which are removed before the spools are inserted on the spindle, each spindle 1 used has its outer diameter equal to the external diameter of the tube, and the diameter of the pin 2 equal to the internal diameter of the tube. The auxiliary supports 14 may comprise clamps 12, 13 for engaging the rod 6 and spindle 1 respectively and levers 11 in the form of tongs pivoted at 20 to the support 14 to actuate spring-controlled slidable plungers 21 provided with feet 16. By moving the levers 11 towards one another, the feet 16 are also moved towards one another, so that the support 14 can be disengaged from the spindle 1 and rod 6. The lower foot 16 may be provided with a groove to engage the feather 7 and thus maintain the support 14 vertical. The spindles have resilientlymounted radially-slidable pins 9 or knobs to prevent the spools falling off.
