Abstract

303,013. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Smith, A. R.). Dec. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Heating by indirect contact of vapour.-A vapour particularly mercury vapour is condensed, and its heat is utilized to evaporate water or other liquid, in a casing 1 having top and bottom walls 15, 16 formed with openings in which are freelv supported evaporator units 23. The upper headers 20 of the evaporator units rest upon beams and blocks secured to the. condenser casing, and the openings in the casing through which the units project are sealed by flexible S-shaped sleeves 26. The sides of the evaporator units opposite the vapour inlet 6 are partly surrounded by curved plates 36. Vapour is drawn off at the vertical centre of the plates through pipes 38 connected to the vacuum pump.
